The Internet Remote Controlled Mission
In a nutshell, Internet RC is an unique online store leveraging proceeds to solely power research and development efforts. Our goal is to make ZERO profit, and instead take ALL of our income and spend it on creating outstanding original content and killer site functionality. For example, our buyers guide and category descriptions are well researched and 100% original content from subject matter experts. By working with Amazon.com (truely the world's largest retailer) we can offer you the best goods at the EXACT same low prices. Ultimately, we can't compete with Amazon on selection or price, so we partner with them to bring you IDENTICAL product listings and provide the needed content to make informed decisions to purchase products.
In the end, we are relying on the consumer to VALUE expert un-biased content creation and purchase from our site so we can continue to create richer and deeper content for the site. We are different because we take our profits to pay for research and development, unlike most organizations that use profits to pay owners. Remote Controlled Buyers Guide
Operating radio controlled vehicles is a fun hobby. Probably the most popular radio controlled models are radio control cars, also known as RC cars. People have always liked miniature things, and anything you can control, like your RC car, is even more exciting. RC vehicles are something both the young and old can enjoy. Before getting into this kind of hobby, there are a few things one needs to know when purchasing their very first radio controlled vehicle.
Types of RC Vehicles
Cars and trucks are the most basic RC toys available. An RC truck or buggy is great for off-road operation, while cars or “Sedans” are ideal for racing on the track. Most new RC hobbyists get started with these types of vehicles before moving on to purchasing more advanced models. RC toy aircraft such as airplanes, jets, sailplanes, gliders, blimps and helicopters are also available. There are also boats, hovercrafts, rockets and robots which appeal to RC enthusiasts of different ages. Some of these models come ready-to-run or ready-to-fly, while some need assembly and have replacement parts which can be upgraded over time.
Toy-grade RC Vehicle or Hobby-grade RC Vehicle?
First, you will need to decide which grade of RC vehicle you would like. There are two types: toy-grade RC vehicles and hobby-grade RC vehicles. Both are great fun, but there are significant differences between the two.
Toy-grade RC Vehicles
-
most of the parts are plastic and replacement parts and upgrades are not available
-
generally cost less
-
most are ready to use from the box and do not need to be built
-
suited to younger children
Hobby-grade RC Vehicles
-
models are manufactured to scale with more sophisticated engineering and parts can also be replaced and upgraded
-
generally faster, as they are powered by either high performance electric motors, petrol or even nitro engines
-
comparatively more expensive, but offers better performance and durability
-
require skill to operate and are suitable for teenagers and adults
Kit or Ready-To-Run (RTR)/Ready-To-Fly (RTF)
Kits
-
requires assembly with the help of an instruction manual
-
cost more at first, but can be more durable and therefore economical in the long run
-
essentially designed for hobbyists with technical aptitude and interest
Ready-To-Run (RTR)/Ready-To-Fly (RTF)
On-Road or Off-Road Vehicles?
Not all RC vehicles are suited for all kinds of terrain. Some are ideal for speeding up on smooth tracks, while some are built to handle bumpy roads and steep inclines.
On-Road Vehicles
-
designed to run on a track or paved surface
-
faster and more streamlined
-
fastest models travel at over 50 mph
Off-Road Vehicles
-
include Buggies and Monster Trucks
-
normally have larger tires with spiky treads
-
can go on almost any type of tracks and conquer even tougher and more rigid terrains
-
speeds range from 10 and 30 mph
Gas or Electric-powered?
Gas-powered RC Vehicles
-
as the name implies, powered by gas, more specifically "nitro" a mixture of nitromethane and synthetic oil
-
fastest RC vehicles on the market
-
require more user knowledge and are not suitable for young children
-
can be more difficult to start and harder to maintain than electric cars
Electric-powered RC Vehicles
-
run on rechargeable batteries: nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-hydride (NiMH) or lithium-polymer (LiPo)
-
safer for younger drivers compared to petrol or nitro powered models
-
make use of motors which are generally cheaper
-
make less noise and can be used indoors
Size/Scale
A whole range of different sizes is available for RC vehicles. Keep in mind that RC toys are not made for toddlers and babies. Generally speaking, the huge monster sized 1/5th size cars which are petrol-powered are not suitable for small children due to their bulk. A good option and probably the most common sizes are either 1/10 or 1/12 scale. These cars are widely available with either a nitro or electric power source. Smaller ‘mini’ sizes, particularly in 1/18 scale, are small enough for most children to carry. RC toys in small sizes are easy to store and fit easily into hands of your child. Bigger toys with few small parts are more suited for older hobbyists.
Frequencies and Multiplayer Capacity
In order to play with brothers, sisters, or friends each RC toy needs a separate frequency. Most toy-grade RC models run on a 27 or 49 MHz frequency. The frequency of your RC vehicle will be printed clearly on the box. Some toys come with hobby-like crystal sets or quadfrequency settings to allow 4 or more vehicles to run together. Many micro-sized (and some larger) RCs aren't radio-controlled at all. They use infrared technology, no frequencies involved.
Now that you have read these important information, you can finally make a sound decision and choose the right kind of RC vehicle for you. Here at Internet-RC.com, we have a wide selection of the different kinds of RC vehicles from the best brands in the market. We wish you a fun day shopping on our store and an even better time playing with your new toy!
