A Great Little R/C Heli January 30, 2010 R. Espana (Dallas, TX) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
While I was skeptical of the helicopter missile launching abilities, my son was grinning ear to ear the first time he pushed the big red fire button on the remote. It's sad to say that I spend just as much time playing with it as him. Its very sturdy for a micro-heli, its body is a very light but resilient plastic vs the cheap feeling foam most others use. Its easily hits 5-6 minutes of flight time (even carrying it's two small missiles), with a 20-30 minute recharge in between (typical for this type). It Does NOT have a tail rotor, instead it has a series of hidden vents with a small fan near the body; IMHO this greatly increases its durability but cuts down on maneuverability compared to other micros. Very easy to fly (my 4 1/2 year old can fly it reasonably well). Its little spring powered plastic missiles are hard to track down if your not careful, but it comes with 6 extras just in case. A lot of fun and Highly Recommended.
P.S. Adult supervision for younger/immature children is necessary. The Helicopter can veer off wildly when its rotor hits a wall/ceiling if you don't let off the throttle; better to have it fall than knock items over.)
WOW, it really flies! February 25, 2010 James Fryer (NY USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I did not expect much from this little RC helicopter, but I am now impressed. It took me maybe four or five flights before I really had any degree of control developed, but now I can fly it with confidence. It's not perfect, but for $35 it is quite a great toy. My four year old has never really gotten the hang of flying this one, he is better with the Air Hogs Atom which is much smaller, more durable, but really can only hover, not fly around.
The Sharp Shooter is stable, but slow. I can fly it all around the house, but it takes patients and a lot of directional correction. It gets banged up a lot, but has only superficial damage.
Pros:
- Tough
- Very Stable
- Just over 7 minute flight time
- Highly realistic model
- It shoots!
Cons:
- It takes a long time to charge (at least 30 minutes)
- It takes a subtle touch to control well
- Control is not always predictable
Flying tip - Don't count on it always turning as quickly as you expect, sometimes it is easier to spin around in the opposite direction to get it pointed where you want.
Helicopter March 9, 2010 Preciousgio (Miami, FL) I didn't read the appropriate age for this toy before I purchased it (10). My son is 4 (too young). It is definitely an outdoor toy and you need a wide open space because unless you know how to fly a helicopter, it is going to go all over the place. It has a lot of power and does what it is supposed to do.
Air Hogs Sharpshooter heli April 14, 2010 PokeCheck Purchased the Air Hogs Sharpshooter two days ago at a Toys R Us for $35. My only previous RC heli was an early Air Hogs Havoc micro heli. Compared to the Havoc, the Sharpshooter is a dream to fly. The coaxial rotors provide a nice stable flight. You use a small knob on the controller to trim the heli (stop residual rotation when in hover). The heli generally moves slowly forward and you control left and right directional. There are two spring-loaded plastic missiles that you fire by pressing button on top of the controller. The missiles fly about 8 feet or so and are great fun to shoot at your dog, cat, targets, etc. You charge the heli from a small wire that extends from the hand controller. A full charge takes about 25 minutes and flashing LEDs tell you when it's charged. You'll get about 5-6 minutes of flight time on a full charge. You should wait about 10-15 minutes between flights before you recharge to allow the heli batt to cool. The flight time may not sound like much, but it's fun anyway. Very rugged so far. We fly over a carpeted area and occasionally strike a wall or furniture, with no damage. My son tried it outdoors and it flew, but the infrared controller seems to be adversely impacted by sunshine. An indoor toy for sure. Takes 6 AA cells in the handheld controller. The heli has a lipo batt. Comes with some paper targets for the missiles. My only caveat (and it's a small one) would be that I've seen some reviews on this site that complain about the heli batt not holding a charge after some weeks of repeated use. I've only had mine for three days now. I'll try to update this review in a few weeks and let you know if we've seen any change in the heli batt performance.
Lives up to expectations May 6, 2010 Beth A. Forbes A toy that actually lives up to what it says. It's easy to learn with and durable. We customize with paint and stickers too.
